Ultimate Questions

What do you want in life? Who do you want to be? Those may just be the hardest questions that you face in life. Those questions determine who you are going to be for the rest of your life. It is not just a question that you would ask a kid in kindergarten, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” That is the question we ask little kids. We face them with pressure of who are you going to be for the rest of your life at such a young age. Sure, it’s good for them to dream and to want something. But, in reality, is what we want then, really what we are going to want later. I think not. I remember when I was second grade, my teacher asked us to journal about what we wanted to be when we grew up. I was unsure, so naturally I put basically every career possible on my paper, from photographer to doctor, from author to actress. I had no clue what I wanted. Lately though, I’ve been wondering, who am I going to be? What do I want in life? What are my standards? Is it possible to honestly know what you want? Is it possible for someone to go after their dream at a very young age and make it? Why can’t it be possible? There are so many questions in life and if you know what you want without a question, then go after it. That’s what I’ve discovered.
Life is hard. Dreams are dreams for a reason. Dreams are designed to look easy so that we will work hard for that one easy part. But truth is, the part getting to the dream is our nightmare. In order to get your dream to become a reality, you have to go through the nightmare that’s a reality for so many. So many people never experience their dream because of the nightmare phase. But if you know what you want, then face the nightmare phase head on. Dreams are there to remind you of how it will be. Some may say that dreams are just a myth, but I say, you cannot dream something that couldn’t happen to somebody. People say that they will never win the lottery, but somebody will. If it can happen to somebody, then why can’t it happen to you? Why can’t your dream be a reality for you? Why does your dream have to be taken by somebody else? In fact, I don’t even think that somebody takes your dream. If it’s your dream and somebody else accomplishes it, it’s not because they stole it, it’s because you gave it to them. You gave it to them when you decided not to prepare for it. You gave it to them when you decided that it was impossible, so why try. Life is hard. But, dreams are worth it.
So the question comes back around, what do you want? Who do you want to be? When you figure that out, then go after it. Stop wasting time saying that it’ll happen someday. By saying that, you are already beginning to give somebody else your dream and what’s rightfully yours.
